PROGRAMME ACCOUNTANT

Location: Nairobi with some travel to the field

Salary & Benefits: Kes 168,462

Level: D1 National

Contract Type: 9 months (Temporary)


The Oxfam GB – Somalia has a wide range of development and humanitarian programmes funded by a broad portfolio of institutional donors.

The Programme Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager and other programme accountant to ensure and maintain a high standard of budget and financial control.

The position will also provide support to ensure maximum impact and coordination of all financial matters relating to the work and operation of the country office.

The Role

The role will contribute to specific programme tasks. The post holder will take lead in financial operational management and payment processing. He or She will provide financial advice to the programme team and contribute to procedures and expenditure monitoring within the Somalia Programme.

In addition the holder will provide training to the partners and build their capacity in terms of financial reporting by reviewing their financial returns and providing appropriate and timely feedback.

In addition he or she will work closely with the programme managers on donor contract management, budget and expenditure monitoring, accounting & financial management and Information systems procedure as well as responding to any Donor queries on financial returns.

The Person
To be successful in this role you will hold a relevant degree coupled with accountancy professional qualification (e.g. ACCA or CPA (K)) with a minimum of 3 years working experience in an NGO or an Audit firm.

Knowledge and experience of donor financial reporting requirements in particular with DFID, ECHO, EC,UN and CIDA will be an added advantage.

You will manage resources and deadlines with minimal supervision and have a high level of initiative.

You will demonstrate a good level of communication and be able to recommend and implement improvements.

You will also be expected to show evidence of high level of planning skills with accuracy and attention to detail.

In addition you will be able to show commitment to the organizational values and its policy on diversity. Ability to speak Somali is an added advantage.

The National Biosafety Authority Kenya Careers

The National Biosafety Authority, is one year old since its establishment under the Biosafety Act 2009.

The Authority is now in the process of establishing its human capital capable of effectively carrying out its mandate of exercising general supervision and control over transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) with a view to ensuring safety of human and animal health as well as the provision of adequate level of protection of the environment.

The Authority recently carried out an in house organizational structuring.

SENIOR INTERNAL AUDITOR 


REF: NBA/SIA/005

This position reports to the Board of Directors while administratively reporting to the Director, Finance and Administration.

Its purpose is to ensure compliance of the corporation operations to internal control systems, procedures and policies with a view to securing proper utilization of Authority’s assets and other resources.

It will suit applicants who have senior management experience in financial and accounting field.

The ideal candidate will be a person who has a clear analytical mind capable of looking at figures with sharp focus, works with integrity and ethically, and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness with far sighted financial thought

Key Responsibilities
1. Carrying out internal audit to ensure compliance with approved management policies, procedures and control systems
2. Reviewing and recommending sound internal controls systems and procedures.
3. Carrying out special audit assignment and investigations including forensic audits when required
4. Gathering, collating, and analyzing financial data and reports to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of funds utilization
5. Preparing and submitting periodic audit reports to the Board and CEO
6. Carrying out risk assessment and evaluation as part of the audit process

 Qualification and Experience
1. Bachelor of Commerce, Accounts, Business Administration, Economics or equivalent
2. CPA K or Equivalent
3. 5 years managerial experience

For the above position, candidate must be computer literate.
